The short film directed by Mia Mullarkey (The Passion, Mother & Baby), ‘Safe As Houses’ has been awarded the Gold Shark for Best Irish Short at the Kinsale Shark Awards in 2022 as well as Best Short Film at the Toronto Irish Film Festival and at the Swedish International Film Festival in 2023.

‘Safe As Houses’ follows the story of Aggie, a woman with Down Syndrome on a hot summer day and the unlikely friendship that she develops with Lucy, a child in Aggie’s council estate. Over the course of a day, the two create a bond and understanding of each other through dancing, lollipops and unspoken communication.

‘Safe As Houses’ was written by Sarah Ahern and produced by Claire McCabe with the support of Screen Ireland.

We wish ‘Safe As Houses’ luck in its upcoming festival showcases and are proud of the many accomplishments it has achieved so far.
