Directed by John Carney
ONCE is a modern-day musical. Maybe.
Set on the streets of Dublin, it features songs by Glen Hansard (of Irish band THE FRAMES) – who also stars in the film – and Marketa Irglová. The film tells the story of a busker and an immigrant who fall in love over an eventful week, as they write, rehearse and record a number of songs.
ONCE won the World Cinema Audience Award at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and the Audience Award at the 5th Jameson Dublin International Film Festival. “Falling Slowly,” written by Hansard and Iglová, won the Academy Award for ‘Best Original Song.’
